Sacom Tuyen Lam Golf Club – A beauty golf course in Da Lat

Our first impression of Sacom Tuyen Lam Golf Club began with the 5-minute drive into the property the day before. The view of the course and clubhouse from the high hills surrounding the resort gave us an inspiring, panoramic first glimpse of the 18-hole course and clubhouse in the valley below.  We knew we were in for a treat when we were to play the course.

We were fortunate to be spending a couple nights at Sacom Resort in some of the club’s 22 rooms.  Each of the rooms are spacious with balconies that offer a nice view of the golf course and surrounding hills.  (Opening in 2016 will be the Swiss-Belresort Tuyen Lam Dalat which will offer additional on-site accommodations.)

On Sunday 13th September we joined at 6:30am for a casual breakfast in the clubhouse to set our flights for the morning’s round.  For those of us playing Sacom Tuyen Lam for the first time, it was an adventure we were looking forward to.

Gathering at 7:30am on the blue tees of the 1st hole, we were set to start our round. Throughout the round, we noted that each set of tees offered a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, colorful flowers and a variety of trees.  Each of the 18 holes provided its unique set of challenges, whether it was well-placed sand traps, streams or lakes.

On the first nine, the 3rd hole stands out as their signature hole — a par 4 where we had to be careful of out-of-bounds on the right and a well-placed fairway bunker located in front of the dog leg right.  The second shot is among the most challenging at. Sacom Tuyen Lam, as the green is well protected with a small pond and bunkers in front.

On the back nine, I was personally impressed by holes #12 and #13.  Both appeared to be a bit more narrow than the other holes, and were guarded by large hills and cliffs on the right of each.  The 410-yard par 4 12th hole and the 499-yard par 5 13th hole forced us into carefully placed shots from the tee-box to the green.

The well manicured course is filled with fragrant flowers throughout, enhancing the overall experience.  It’s a pleasure to play now, and I expect it will be one of Vietnam’s top courses for many years to come.

After a nice lunch back in the clubhouse, we were taken on a tour of the full Sacom Resort sacomresort.com.vn.  Of particular interest were the large villas situated on the exclusive peninsula of Tuyen Lam Lake.  Spacious and luxurious, they offer an ideal getaway from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
